i'm running dns services on windows 2008 , mx records. if disable recursion on server, not resolve mx records host records. in responce mx queries, root hints reply. if enable recursion resolve correctly. i used network monitor , found out server receive ms query internal ad dns domain apended, i.e. xyz.com.localdom.com? so, disabled recursion , used server not joined domain perform mx query , resolved. 1 issue remained server responding name not found root hints? so, removed root hints , timed out unknow names want. after disabling root hints, queries clients joined domain successful.
