tl;dr - use lpd macintosh work-around smb; why being deprecated? hi! i'm curious why lpd service being deprecated. granted, don't know it, here's why ask: i support large networking environment @ big college campus. have windows print servers, , have heavy mac deployment (60% mac endpoints, ~350+ or so). these macs have big problem smb authentication when bound our campus ad. reason, when ad users authenticate, , map printer connection via smb, print queue pause. attempting un-pause queue results in prompt ad credentials. providing proper credentials (with domain prefix "domain\username") not work. way i've been able bypass problem use lpd instead of smb. yes, know, mac issue. it's reason that, now, cannot see way around lpd. the lpd service still included in 2012 r2. i've pointed post couple people interested in feedback on lpd removal. if there others using feature, please update thread. thanks alan morris windows printing team ...

hi all, did setup brand new windows 2008 r2 server. in lab did this: installed windows 2008 r2 server installed iis role made dcpromo test domain. installed exchange 2010 server. all things worked toke productions site. here did following: made fresh install of windows 2008 r2 server. installed iis role joined server company domain (dcpromo) installed exchange 2010 server. under exchange server install did go wrong. last exchange role didn’t install, mailbox role failed. i have tried several times to install server role fails every time. first wrong thing found, symantec av blocked rpc port. when corrected role still fails :( i need method force install of exchange server role. install saying role has failed before , should try reinstall. doing... at moment i'm getting tre errors eventid 4: (pid 3276, thread 44) task start-setupservice writing error when processing record of index 0. error: microsoft.exchange.configuration.tasks.servicefailedtostart...

asked in server general suggested migrate forum. replaced bunch of 2008r2 servers 2016, , migrated dhcp setups. work fine of time, have @ least 2 (of eight) having troubles on recurring basis. clients stop getting addresses, clients on other subnets getting them through helper addresses in local l3 switches. when occurs (about once every 2-14 days randomly) can see addresses handed out , registered in dns in dhcp log, client requests them again, , again, , again.  there no errors logged @ all, in events or dhcp log. when occurs, cannot restart dhcp service, not respond (but running still trying hand out addresses; speculate may hung volume of requests, though bit lame 1 think still respond eventually).  when occurs, continue hand out local addresses, i.e. on subnet nic is. reboot of server fixes it. no change being made l3 switch (cisco) during time, not think issue in switch (unless somehow server reboot can trigger change there).  again...

hi, hopefully right place pose question.  i'm testing process of recoving ad , ad ds in event of disaster.  have backup of windows 2008 sp1 dc hosts 5 fsmo roles.  i'm able restore backup using bmr process.  problem run this.  i'm not restoring exact same hardware current dc running on.  when restored server boots , login have install driver nic card , re-assign ip address server.  after doing end folder named ntfrs_preexisting_see_eventlog under sysvol folder , login shares not present when @ machine.  if modify burflag under hklm\system\currentcontrolset\services\ntfrs\parameters\backup/restore\process @ startup , set d4 , reboot sysvol goes looking should (as far can tell) , login shares return. is doing - doing full bmr to different hardware for dc supported?  if not recommended way recovering ad?  should build new machine scratch , restore ad backup? also, have 2 other dcs have backups well....
