WIndows 2008 Server Web Edition


 all tutorials iis 7 configured allow traffic through port 80.  installed windows 2008 server web edition , default settings not registering sites.  when test settings under basic settings sites authorization error appears.  server configured use pass-through authentication built in account access specified physical path.  however, iis manager cannot verify whether built-in account has access.  make sure application pool has read access physical path.  don't know dns client or http listner cause sites not resolve , cache.

would please take @ following scenarios , check 1 applies situation?

 

scenario 1.

you have 1 pc windows web server 2008 running on it. want set public web server others internet can access server read pages.

 

well, in scenario, need contact isp. codes or applications may automatically register domain name in isp's dns server. however, need contact isp on hold responsibility whether allowed register domain name on dns server or not.

 

additionally, in scenario, there no need add dc or dns server in own environment. netlogon used logging active directory domain, , should of no use setting web server.

 

scenario 2.

this web server internal use , not expose internet people.

 

if have other machines in environment want access web server, yes, may need set dns server (please note dc still not needed). however, there limitations on web edition of windows server 2008. please note edition designed use web , applications server. other server roles not available.

 

so, may need re-install machine run other editions of windows server 2008, such standard or enterprise editions.

 

scenario 3.

this web server testing use , not have other machines in environment needing access web server.

 

well, can try hosts file (located @ %systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc) see if can help. can add following entry file (start new line):

 

<your own ip address>     <your own domain name>

 

this way valid ip address when ping own domain name.

 

scenario 4.

=======

 

if not sure if need set dc , dns server, , if script needs dc , dns server. well, sorry may need re-install system (same reason scenario 2.) can set dc , dns. otherwise, may need adjust script.
