Multiple branch offices, no server
morning all,
i working company has 250 plus users machines configured in single domain. i have multiple dc's @ our main head office , 1 dc @ our second, smaller regional office. these connected via hardware (watchguard) ipsec vpn. this works nicely imagine.
because of type of business in, there 200-400 small sites go , down each year. all of users @ these sites have machines on main domain.
an ideal solution, me, run rodc's @ each site cost prohibitive.
all of sites need access head office possible restricted using 3g router 2-3 weeks while telephone lines go in , broadband can installed. once broadband installed, can create bovpn , users can access internal domain resources.
the key requirement each office access shared printers. at present, use windows 7 machine site pc (for ad hoc user access) , share printers - machine on same domain. during transition 3g broadband logins slow local machines because there no dc available. printing hit , miss because of lack of name resolution.
i have played idea of setting bovpn via 3g router , dynamic dns not ideal speeds can slow simple internet.
my question this. has got views on best way configure without dc @ each site? the printing issue main problem slow logins gets users down , generates complaints.
as users roam between sites , each site have different printers need them able browse new printer , select it. this doesn't work without name resolution , users need specify ip address of machine shared printers. some of printers usb a1 plotters although each site have network enabled photocopier.
i guess in ideal world want users able add printer , in ad, of course there no access dc on 3g sites.
i have played idea of opening ad / dns ports on firewall don't idea of have thought putting dc in hq in dmz.
i'd love views on how other people potentially achieve sort of solution.
many thanks,
m
