DFS and shortname vs FQDN issues

this similar, not quite same few other posts i've seen.

dfs in our branch sites has started returning access denied on dfs root , file not found shared under when using fqdn, not shortname.

here's looks like:  \\domain\dfsroot works perfectly.  \\domain.com\dfsroot yields access denied.  i've tested dfs servers in both shortname , fqdn , hitting them directly works.  same thing targets.

interestingly clients have problem when browsing \\domain.  on clients both shortname , fqdn work dfsroot not show in either case.

thanks looking, , if isn't right forum please point me in right direction.

hello,

i suggest enable fqdn on dns namespace server see if issue can fixed.

in domain-based dfs scenario, please use following steps enable dns management console use fqdn in dfs namespace.
1. remove dfs namespace domain-based dfs in dfs management console.

2. make registry dfsdnsconfig change value 1

hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\services\dfs

value name: dfsdnsconfig
data type: reg_dword
value data: 0 or 1

3. reboot dfs member server.

4. re-create domain-based dfs namespace in dfs management console.

5. afterwards, dfs namespace should use fqdn of dfs member server in namespace server list.

please let me know if works you.

thanks , regards
