Firewalling Domain Controllers

hi,

i have 3 2008r2 domain controllers in environment. 3 protected corporate firewalls external threats, local windows firewall disabled.

is possible enhance security these dcs enabling windows firewall? exceptions/rules added automatically firewall policy based on servers' roles, or need add them manually?
