Noob questions to windows server 2008

hey everyone,

i noob windows server 2008. i've been playing couple days, figuring things out, setting stuff , getting hand on things. new scene (running web server , playing windows server) , plan on starting school further learn it, i'm impatient , enjoy learning things on own. :p now, have few concerns. i'm not sure if proper place ask these questions , concerns can maybe help.

 

as stated, i've setup quite bit of stuff. i've setup apache (2.2.15), php 5.2.13 , mysql 5.1, wasn't difficult, works fine. problem can load local (static) ip on server (192.168.0.181) , it'll load site. partially. know causing that?

that first concern. second concern is, i've gotten load website (local only) via external ip, because it's doing local loop through external allowing me on, had friend try via external, no luck. did setup dns server on server 2008 , appears running fine. put server name in httpd file in apache , loads fine. cannot access via dns, anywhere. not sure what's going on there.

 

lastly, did talk friend whos in , asked him, "hey, i've got server setup , running can't seem communicate out world. thought may have been port 80 because opened ports on firewalls , it's still not working" told me install iis, did. did server management -> roles -> add role -> web server (iis) , once there, selected asp.net which, of course selected other options well. confirmation page had:

clicked on install, said "installation succeeded". click "close" goes roles page, , right next web server (iis) big red 'x'. click bring event viewer, take @ what's going on , have error event id 1004 "the world wide web publishing service (www service) did not register url prefix http://*:80/ site 1. site has been disabled. data field contains error number." tried googling around see if find not. maybe did didn't realize it? again stated above, i'm still amateur @ , still in learning process.

 

anyways, input has or sort of may have give me appreciated , helps me further learning experience above topics. if out of scope of support web site, apologize, thank help.

if works internal complete , external not can problem firewall. needed apache ports should maybe use a forum apache, sounds me better place.
