Which risks can be occurred when increasing DHCP Scope!!!
hi all,
currently, system has divided 16 dhcp scopes 16 vlan, each scope uses 250 host ip address /24 subnet mask
now, need add more 2 scopes:
1 scope 250 host ip address /24 subnet mask
1 remain 1 500 host ip address /23 subnet mask
please me resolve question
1. dhcp server overload when apply 2 more scope?because had 16 scopes
2. can make scope /23 subnet , /24 subnet on dhcp server togetther?
3. broadcast storm affect new scope 500 host ip? because other scopes has 250 ip
thanks alot
- dhcp's load not determined size of address pool, instead actual client traffic. largely due number of dhcp servers on subnet , dhcp lease length. can imagine, 8 day lease length going keep dhcp server far less busy 15 minute one. load not "too much" or in absolute sense, determined server's resources. see this article monitoring dhcp server's performance. having said this, suspect you'll fine. dhcp pretty low effort server reasonable specs.
- yes, dhcp servers can service subnets of different sizes. make sure don't overlap obvious reasons.
- again, depends on resources within environment, unless turned of workstations on @ exact same instant, wouldn't expect issue dhcp broadcast traffic. besides, pre-existing computers use unicast anyway unless previous dhcp server non-responsive.
