When do updates actually download?
i've setup new wsus 3.0 sp2 server. (note: it's configured deal updates pertaining english, windows xp, vista, 7, , office 2007.) did initial synchronization upon completeion of setup. appears have downloaded update information, not actual update files. put information in numerous folders txt files within c:\wsus\wsuscontent.
from reading, believed updates not physically downloaded until approved. did test of 1 set of updates -- approved them. within 15 minutes updates downloaded server.
i'd set actual update files/data downloaded after business hours. that, seems i'd have approve updates after hours since immedaitely begin downloading after approval. doesn't seem right... i'm sure i'm missing something.
so question is, synchronization if data isn't triggered download until approve update?
what missing?
thanks help!

basically, yes.
or configure bits throttling prevent bits doing data transfers during day, adversely impact ability of clients download wsus server during day, not recommend using feature.

synchronization synchronization of update metadata. given you'll approve less 10% of updates synchronized server, it's extremely inefficient download binary files update unless update going deployed client system (i.e. going approved installation).
