Can not RDP into 2008 R2 Server after installation of VPN.

this odd ill explain hardware first.

at work

2008 r2 server standard no sp1 behind netgear dg834au dsl modem running vpn routes overseas server

at home

2008 r2 server enterprise sp1 behind billion 7200n dsl modem running same vpn connecting same server

problem:

with vpn off , direct connection isp can connect both servers using rdp fine. no issues

with  vpn connected can still connect fine server @ home when connected on server @ work, no connect, no ping nothing.

any ideas?

hi,

this expected, depending on how have vpn configured.  when connect vpn changing the default route, incoming connection internet fail because return packets not travel through router/nat.

you may able function if adjust vpn configuration packets destined vpn subnet sent through vpn, while packets destined internet will be sent router (like when vpn disconnected).

for vpn configuration questions should ask question in vpn manufacturer's forum/tech support portal/telephone support.  if using microsoft vpn solution recommend ask questions in platform networking forum:
