Authentication/Firewall problem

i cannot connect windows server 2008 using the server explorer(visual studio 2008) either name or ip address, error message returned states ‘an error occurred while attempting connect server’.

the windows server 2008 networked resource can seen using a low level ping, networked device can seen network & sharing centre feature windows vista  - device physically exists.

is windows server 2008 blocking attempts connect iis7.0 resource? i’ve installed iis7.0 longhorn on windows server 2008 , can browse iis7.0 welcome page locally on server cannot connect server remotely.

is there a procedure rule i’ not following i.e. authentication rules , incoming/outgoing firewall rules need to apply. i don't believe i'm dealing with visual studio 2008 problem, can publish web sites locally to the local host, can't publish files the remote windows 2008 server.

thanks,

hi,

is full server or server core installation? can remotely access web pages other box, or locally? if locally, sounds either iis or firewall configuration problem. can computer management , included functionality or event viewer mmc snap-ins access server? if not, firewall problem , need enble 1 or more of management rules.
