Starting Partition Offset in Windows Server Loghorn
i observed partition starting offset in build 5728 sector 128 (0x80) instead of previous sector 63 (0x3f). according kb article q923332, in vista, default starting offset sector 2048 (0x800).
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923332
could someone provide accurate picture.
thanks,
niraj
i received following answer 1 of our developers:
for vista align partitions default. registry key controls default values, based on disk size. key hklm\system\currentcontrolset\services\vds\alignment. admin can change these defaults. can use values different defaults using diskpart create partition. ‘create partition’ command has had alignment parameter since w2k3 sp1, prior vista, first partition on disk aligned. vista, partitions, including extended partitions aligned.
this alignment can increase io speed, as 100%.
