DFS issue when logging in off-network (Cached credentials)

environment:

ad:  2003

dhcp has wins option

fileserver: 2008 r2

issue:  had setup dfs incorrectly , in production , tried setup correctly new design not showing-up when log-in off network.  connecting our wi-fi network or home wi-fi when logging in off network.

original design

\\domainname\users - there no folder referals , points directly path.  i.e. \\servername\users

new design

namespace: \\domainname\files

folders:  dept , user

folder referals under dept , users:  site 1 , site 2

thus path user folder in site 1 \\domainname\files\user\site1\username , site 2 \\domainname\files\user\site2\username

no replication between sites

both namespaces in use old how pointing users.

i map home drive in ad new dfs path , while on domain fine

when log on off network (cached credentials)  - i'm not getting drive mapping, when log onto our vpn no drive mapping can manually map drive

when change ad account old dfs path home folder on network fine , fine when log on off network or locally cached credentials.

it doesn't longer filename new dfs namespace not being cached least see through explorer.

ideas?

thanks

hi,

i think may caused by design.

system think \\domainname server name when trying mapping it. when are offline, \\domainname\files is not offline-available folder , not mapped.

in old situation, \\domainname\users folder exists , correct folder work.

see: using offline files on dfs shares / shares going offline!

http://blogs.technet.com/b/netro/archive/2011/01/24/using-offline-files-on-dfs-shares-all-shares-are-going-offline.aspx

for current situation, why not map server instead of dfs namespace?
