Simple (virtual) NiC question I hope...

configuring what's surely common setup...

* server 2012 r2 (host) , dc (root), 192.168.1.2

* hyper-v, server 2012 r2 sql server (probably ad (could dc failover way), 192.168.1.3

should virtualise network environment?  the pc has 2 adapters, using 1 now, we'll @ nic teaming perhaps later (or 2nd virtual server???)

i'm no expert on hyper-v!

normally, separate servers, use dhcp on primary dc , reserve ip's other servers (as other devices (printers etc)).  that's way i'd configure virtual setup, use reservations in dhcp server.

if can on how best setup nic in hyper-v instance, it'd appreciated.  i assume can create virtual nic , cancel if it's not best.

is there guide around (surely common) setup scencario?

cheers,   duncan.

if have single physical host, install hyper-v on host , create virtual machines other roles.  not recommended mix hyper-v role other role, such dc or sql server.

for networking, have 2 options.  in 1 define 1 nic physical host , use second nic defining virtual switch.  vms connect virtual switch.  dc has have fixed ip address.  not mention size growing, or other configuration information, if talking machine running sql server, seems unnecessary set dhcp ip address on sql machine.  besides, preference have fixed ip address on servers fixed functions, such sql servers.  not required, in small environments, way set up.

second nic configuration create team of 2 nics , carve out 2 virtual nics, 1 host , 1 on define virtual switch vms.
