GPSVC hangs indefinitely after server crash on terminal servers

recently had few issues our hyper-v san number of virtual servers had lost connection disk. while not issue (they reboot on other cluster node), have issues on 2 virtual servers terminal servers.

when these servers restart after such disk outage, hang @ "applying computer policy" screen. users trying log on hang @ "applying user policy" screen 60 minutes, , following event logged:

log name: application source: microsoft-windows-winlogon date: ... event id: 6005 task category: none level: warning keywords: classic user: n/a computer: ... description: winlogon notification subscriber <gpclient> taking long time handle notification event (createsession).

in cases, helps perform following procedure server working:

  • disable gpsvc (through psexec -s) , reboot
  • remove domain , re-join
  • delete c:\programdata\microsoft\group policy , c:\windows\system32\grouppolicy
  • schedule chkdsk
  • reboot

i wonder why issue happens on 2 rdp servers , not on ca. 50 other servers on same hyper-v cluster. of course rdp servers have way more user profiles, should difference comes mind.

does have idea can cause this, or how trace issue if happens again? checked gpsvc.log , enabled debug logging did not find helpful information.
