AD Sites & Services - Replication Connections

i trying gather better understanding of ad sites & services regard replication , clarify possible misunderstandings co-worker.

  • replication within site occurs , automatically via notification process.
  • replication between sites occurs on scheduled basis compression
  • within each site, dc automatically identified istg bridgehead server site site replication.
  • the path sites replicate each other handled site links.
  • connections between sites (bridgehead servers) generated kcc automatically.

example environment:

site 1

  • dc1 - bridgehead sever

site 2

  • dc2 - bridgehead server

site 3

  • dc3 - bridgehead server

the questions have are:

  1. should kcc automatically generate connections other bridgehead servers @ each site?  example, dc1 - automatic connections dc2 & dc3.
  2. will these automatic connections done bridgehead servers?
  3. is there limit number of automatic connections? co-worker said kcc auto generate connections first 5 dcs can't find in technet article.
  4. would manual connections cause kcc not auto generate of connections? our environment has 6 sites, , sites have single auto generated connection other sites not "connected".

any input helpful can better understand process , resolve configuration issues.

thanks!

  1. yes there can multiple connections required, example gc need connection objects in order replicate in domain partitions.
  2. no
  3. no - there in windows 2000
  4. yes don't mix kcc managed topology manually created/edited connection objects.
