Attaching a tape drive to a 2012R2 VM

thank reading post.

i’m having problem ‘attaching’ hp sas autoloader tape library backup server. direction or advice appreciate.

setup

one physical server hyper – v role installed , 4 virtual machines:

1-    -  file server 1

2-     - file server 2

3-     - application server 1

4-      -application server 2 (backup server) -  with veritas backup exec 2014 installed

a hp sas autoloader tape library attached , recognized physical server in device manger.  however, not recognized on vm backup server.  i cannot seem add/attach tape library backup server , cannot find , tape library listed in settings… > add hardware in hyper-v manger backup server vm.

what can tape drive ‘attached’ , functioning on backup server can begin backing data?

any assistance appreciated.

that's easy actually. install starwind tape redirector (free!) on host physical tape drive , "iscsi"-ize our software. use other location having iscsi initiator connect tr , you'll "map" tape drive there. of course vm works. see:

starwind tape redirector (free)

...at end of day you'll have on pic below:

let me know if you'd need help!

good luck! :)
