Several problems with new Win 2008 R2 install.

i'm new windows 2008 r2, having taken plunge upgrade home network server os have 12 pcs, 2 network printers , other devices. management of patches, control of software installed , performance main reason decision.

i'm not sure if right place series of general questions. please forgive me if got wrong.

i've spent last couple of days searching around solutions these issues can't find works. installed 2008 r2 on test machine , installed , worked first shot. did a few times make sure understood how complete install , test everything. when attempted updrade production server things went awry.

the server intel i5-2500, 8gb ddr3 ram. mobo z68x-ud3r-b3. has nvidia graphics card. have 2 x sata 3 drives, 5 x sata 2 , 1 usb drive, total storage 14.5 tb

(1). can't install adobe flash player 10.3. crashes saying application has stopped working. tried manually download installer didn;t work either.

(2). tried install wsus, got "update not found". spent day researching none of solutions found worked downloaded installer wsus 3.0 sp2 , manually installed it. wsus is  showing installed role. in installed ms report viewer 2008 redistributable, wsus said needed. shows error status, in event viewer says permissions fodler incorrect. security on folder administrator(full control). should be?

i tried solutions offered here .. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en/winserverwsus/thread/d2a1d11e-52ca-4093-b79a-61e713e7d49c but did not work.

 

(3). when accessing applications such mmc , ie, i keep getting "encoutered validation error" (ignore once, ignore all, dont ignore), errors. times dozens of them. i've started ingoring all. i'm guessing not right approach, causes these errors?

(4). when try access wsus administrative tool error: "assertion: m_stringindex.find (itentry->m_str) == m_strindex.end() in strtable.cpp. if click ok errors keep coming.. if click cancel validation error , mmc.exe stops working.

(5). when installing wsus manually said go http://server:8530, selected not use existing site. when try url says folder set not list directory contents.

am missing patches? have automatic updates set austomatic, , tells me there no updates available.

Edit Group Policy

i have pc has power settings pushed out default domain policy in ad environment. of course on local machine "some settings managed system adminstrator". the machine temporarily no longer in contact domain controller (it's been physically moved , not on same network now) can't updated gpo settings. i believe if edit local group policy won't make difference because of group policy processing , precedence. since it's temporary away ad network, still want use settings of ad user. is there somewhere in registry stored can edit power plan manually until can sync domain? File Share Witness is not a valid File share path

i have 2 windows 2008 r2 vms (esxi) running double-take. we have health-check running on our netscaler force failover primary vm secondary vm if netscaler cannot access smb share on primary vm. this hasn't proven method of providing fault tolerance, trying cluster these 2 vms using file share witness. (i should add client engineers solution, implement according requirements). the witness share has been created on emc vnx. domain account , domain cluster computer name account both have full control permissions on share. i have installed the file services role failover clustering feature on both vms. to configure quorum, selecting node , file share majority (for clusters special configuration). i providing ip address , share name in form of \\<ipaddress>\<sharename>. the wizard returns \\<ipaddress>\<sharename> not valid share path. reading documentation microsoft, there statement saying witness share should have nothing else stored or u...
