Excel 2013 error: file locked for editing - Searched, tried everything posted, still no go

our computers:  office pro plus 2013, excel 2013, windows 7 sp1 64 bit automatic updates

file server: windows server 2008 r2 enterprise sp1 64 bit

my department consists of 3 users, have full rights administrators.

we have password protected file in our departmental network folder.  when of 3 of try open it, familiar "filename.xls locked editing myname".

here trouble shooting steps have tried unsuccessfully far:

made sure no 1 else had file open

show hidden files, folders , drivers checked

hide protected operating systems files (recommended) not checked

checked tilde ~ file, not found

i have searched hard drive occurrence of filename (no file extension), found shortcuts (deleted them)

signed on file server admin, owner of file, can't delete or rename file "the action can't deleted because file open in system"

gave ownership domain admins, same attempts, same error

rebooted pc (warm , cold) several times

microsoft user forum -

1.check in ‘task manager’ whether excel.exe process running in background.
excel.exe or microsoft excel. if found, right click on same , click on end process , end process.

2.start windows explorer, , browse (temp) folder contains excel file tried open when received error message.
temp folder location: c:\users\<username>\appdata\local\temp

3.delete owner file.  owner file located in same folder document tried open. owner file name uses following convention: begins tilde (~), followed dollar sign ($), followed remainder of document file name. file name extension *.xls or *.xlsx. example, owner file document.xls or xlsx named ~$cument.xls or xlsx.

no background process running, not find file

microsoft user forum - i found folder named "powerquery" contained file called "workspace.bin" in 1 of many subfolders. file blocked excel process. killing process deleted blocked file. open workbook without problems.

could not find folder or file.

went c:\users\myusername\appdata\roaming\microsoft\office\recent , deleted shortcut filename.xls

c:\users\myusername\appdata\roaming\microsoft\windows\recent , deleted filename.xls shortcut

c:\users\myusername\appdata\roaming\microsoft\excel didn’t find there

please!  other suggestions?
