Cannot Open the Specified Files

in word (office 2013), trying paste link in word doc pdf stored on our website. when put link word, 2 pop boxes, 1 asks if file trusted source, when click okay, next box says "unable open. cannot open file path.  here link:

i can paste link outlook email  no problem, not work in excel, word, or powerpoint.

any advice?

based on error message, issue might caused following conditions:

• you using microsoft internet explorer:
  
  
  • a proxy server -or-
  • a firewall not allow http requests placed on local network
  -and-
• internet explorer not default browser.
  
  -and-
• the forceshellexecute registry key not present in following location or not set 1:       
  
  for 32 bit office versions installed on 64 bit operatingsystems
  
  hkey_local_machine\software\wow6432node\microsoft\office\9.0\common\internet
  
  for 32 bit office versions installed on 32 bit operating systems or 64 bit office versions installed on 64 bit operating systems
