Migrating from an Old domain to a New one but being able to access information and servers on both sides!

hello there,

i newbie forums please bear me , if need more info, let me know!

was wondering if perhaps give me thoughts on following:

currently our company operating using 2 domains, lets call these domains domain x , domain y!

now domain x old (pretty messed , barely working domain) ,  domain y newly formed structured server 2008 domain.

both domains live separate in own ip ranges , in fact on own separate switches.

i trying determine best process migrate old domain new 1 , after time switch off old domain.

when comes workstations, have been able migrate them 1 other relatively no hassles.

the biggest problem have on domain x (the old one) have 2 virtual servers house development virtual machines used sharepoint deployments , told these virtual machines cannot migrated new domain.. apparently mean sharepoint needs re-installed each vm , take ridiculous amount of time, let alone dns complications etc.

  • so long story short realize need create 2 way trust between 2 domains allow users belonging domain y ability access servers in old domain x (specifically on remote desktop , on url browser.)
  • i realize due fact each network/domain in own ip range need form of equipment allow these 2 network segments speak 1 another.

my questions follows:

i know may stupid question, possible connect 1 switch other , hope best? - in testing enviroment find dhcp problem picks address 1 domain controller , once release , renew fetch other domain controller on other segment. under no circumstances can workstations ping 1 in different network segments.

for above question presume need router of sorts route traffic between 2 networks - solution?

my second question best way achieve ability able work across domains interim period? minimal downtime our developers.

thanks time , if require additional info, please let me know.

hello,

for networking part either configure router connection between themor use switches vlans connect subnets. if make 1 big subnet both domains @ least one of them must use fixed ip addresses on machines avoid getting ips other dhcp server , way wrong dns servers, logon not possible.

to migrate 2 domains 1 need tools admt(free microsoft) or have pay example quest migration tools. admt requries @ least one-way trust migrae , quest tools able offline, if remember correct.
