current setup issues

 server 2008 r2 64bit, 32gb

two raids setup in hotswap supermicro case:

raid 1 280gb os system drive using 2 sas drives

raid 5 500gb data drive using 4 sas drives

in slot 7 installed 1 3 tb sata drive removable dpm drive backup.

computer name: hyperv01.dmlaw.local

roles setup - hyper-v,  file services

installed ms 2010 dpm on server. had setup server part of domain could

install dpm. need use 3 tb slot 7 sata drive removable drive dpm.

need setup 3 tb drive custom storage can removed once month and

swapped out 1 offsite backups.

there problems see in loss of data , doing restores on 1 box. can

restore individual vm’s okay lots of issues if hyper-v part fails or whole physical

server crashes , trying restore system.

questions ask:

1. error getting features , roles error on virtual server 2k8 r2

2. domain controller virtual srv 2k8 r2

3. dpm server requires part of domain controller install?

4. problems restoring have setup. on 1 pc?

5.  problems logging dc when it's not due virtual dc can’t start first.

6. if setup second pc secondary dc or primary, help.

7. should remove ms server backup feature?

8. having issues installing dpm client virtual machines?

9.  is best answer problem setup separate machine dpm domain issues

another consultant’s remarks: eric's answer number 6

that around domain issue dpm, still not protect if hyper-v failed.  you'd protected if individual vm failed or had issue (unrecoverable virus, accidently deleted file, etc).  he in trouble if physical hyper-v server failed.

it reboots, far protection if dc vm failed.  if vms failed (meaning hyper-v failed), may not restore right if there physical dc.

really, way backups reliable outside of simple file restores or individual workstation restores have dpm on separate physical

hello,

you have few options.  install dpm on server, inside virtual machine, or use windows server backup backup vms secondary media location.  i've had experiences in small deployments using wsb vm protection.
