server hangs momentarily


hi everyone.

a recent hiccup on clients network proving frustrating narrow down.  have windows 2000 ad domain 2003 server sql server, file server.  2003 server, several times day, 'drops off network' 5 seconds or so. drops off network isn't entirely correct ping server gateway continues without dropping packet.  appears hang briefly resumes normal operations.

this hang causes users disconnected sql session , other documents, databases etc terminated.

in event logs of few workstations checked, event id 1002 'application hang' reported.  lots of these 1002 errors within word, excel, outlook, explorer, iexplore etc.

i have been rdp'd server when 'hangs'. nothing moves, few windows go white , few seconds later returns normal.

does have can contribute might issue.  client getting frustrated i.

this issue can caused third party software conflicts, such antivirus program.

 

based on current situation, suggest temporarily disable antivirus program test issue.

 

if not work, please perform clean boot test issue. detailed steps of how perform clean boot, please refer section “how use system configuration utility” of following microsoft kb article:

what’s result in clean boot?

 

if works in clean boot, please enable disabled services or startup items 1 one narrow down possible cause.
