Mail between Exchange 5.5 Servers stopped

i have been plagued event id 9318. i'm working on dns issues, trying troubleshoot @ same time.

here descriptive text event log.

essentially, mail between 2 exchange 5.5 servers has stopped while mail , main site works fine.  mail sent server (mailserver01) server (mailserver02) sits in mta que.  same goes mail sent mailserver02 mailserver01. sits in que , never gets sent. 

administrator @ mailserver02 can't net view or net use \ipc$

i've looked @ kb170056 , kb831051. going download rpc ping utility, wanted see if there thoughts out there.  thanks\
if can explain me locality table (ltab) along main base 1 500 %10] (14) that'd great.
