RDS Host Role - serious issues

hey all,

i've got oldish server that's 6 months away dropping out of warranty (dell poweredge 1950). used server 2003 r2 domain controller, transferred services on new 2008 r2 box , decommissioned machine.

now, i've rebuilt server 2008 r2 (x64) machine. it's going host backup exec 2012, our trend officescan server , it's going rds host server. day rebuilt added rds host role , shortly after 1 of hard drives in raid 0 array failed. got drive replaced dell on same day since raid 0 configuration, lost , had start over.

i built again raid 0 2008 r2 (x64) machine again. going well, until added rds host role last step. upon rebooting, machine became unusable. couldn't start server manager (some error mmc snap-in not being configured), couldn't open "computer" (an error message relating "appropriate permissions"). after leaving server switched on while, i'm not able log on local or domain accounts, i'm left error saying "access denied".

i have rebuilt server third time. time went raid 1 (server 2008 r2 x64 again). got other services , running, , left running week without hassles. 2 nights ago, added rds host role again. each time i've done this, i've selected "allow connections computers running version of remote desktop", chose configure licensing later , left "select user groups allowed access remote desktop session host server" default ("administrators"). upon rebooting, once again i've got same problem.

after 3 attempts, i'm totally stumped. don't understand how adding role can cause such issue this. server useless me right now, , it's looking more , more i'll either have restore machine backup, or re-install again , start over.

both of these options seem bit crazy though, has got insight hell going on here?

hi,

1. please download latest system update utility (suu) .iso image files dell, join them using copy command, , burn them dvd or extract files folder on server's hard drive using third-party utility can open iso files.

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/555/driverdetails/driverfileformats?driverid=jh8xc&fileid=2838124733

run suulaunch.exe start suu.

after suu scans server recommend updates bios, firmware, drivers, server administrator, etc. server.  please consider allowing update things versions recommends.  if have questions/concerns please ask dell server support (free under warranty).

2. if have not done please boot latest version (download if needed) of dell diagnostics cd , run tests.

3. please run chkdsk c: /r @ command prompt , restart can check drive when possible.  depending on size of volume, server speed, etc. process may take while.

4. dollar mentioned, please remove or disable third-party software may causing problem on server.

it not normal server have major issues after adding rdsh role service.  fact indicates there problem server and/or third-party software installed prior adding role.  have experience running rdsh on many different poweredge models without problems.
