lots of traffic generated due WSUS Server

we getting complaints through our network department network traffic getting generated towards wsus server .

and need keep wsus server shutdown time .

any solution reduce network traffic .

disable policy "specify intranet microsoft update server", have side-effect of reverting of clients using automatic updates.

alternatively disable automatic updates service terminate updating query traffic.

of curiosity... of answer related contingency plan managing deployment of security updates while wsus server shutdown "for time". if you're not planning update systems during time, disable service via policy. if contingency plan use automatic updates in interim, reconfigure "specify intranet ... server" policy.

if server going offline couple of days, i'd politely suggest networking people find more critical work on trivial , transient network traffic occuring regardless of whether wsus server online or offline!
