windows home and student 2010 (word) won't open

hi, problem have press on windows home , student 2010 (word) comes banner says "microsoft word has encountered problem , needs close, box ticked restart , recover lost work" process keeps on happening , program not open. have tried opening other word docs did not work , tried opening in safe mode did not work. please help!!!

this issue may occur if global template (normal.dotm) corrupted, can follow these steps rename global template test issue.

step 1: determine template used document

1. open problem document in word 2010.
2. click file on ribbon, , click word options.
3. click add-ins.
4. in manage box, click templates under view , manage office add-ins
5. click go.

the document template box list template used document. if template listed normal, go step 2. otherwise, go step 3.

step 2: rename global template (normal.dotm)

 microsoft windows xp

1. exit word 2010
2. click start, , click run.
3. in open box, type following text, , press enter:
   %userprofile%\application data\microsoft\templates
4. right-click normal.dotm, , click rename.
5. type oldnormal.dotm, , press enter.
6. close windows explorer.

step 3: change document template

1. open problem document in word 2010.
2. click file on ribbon, , click word options.
3. click add-ins.
4. in manage box, click templates under view , manage office add-ins, , click go.
5. click attach.
6. in templates folder, click normal.dotm, , click open.
7. click ok close templates , add-ins dialog box.
8. exit word 2010

step 4: verify changing templates worked.

1. start word 2010.
2. click file on ribbon, , click open.
3. click damaged document, , click open.
