Upgrade from Windows Server 2003 Standard to Windows Server 2008 Standard

please assist me. trying upgrade windows server 2003 server windows server 2008, in test , dev environment. testing migration vmware, physical vm. when run setup file, windows server 2008 dvd, following error message "the file 'autorun.dll' not loaded or corrupt. setup cannot continue. error code [0x5]"

i have tested win svr 2k8 dvd , works fine when performing clean install not when try upgrade. have tried upgrade 3 machines , give me same error message.

i assume here speaking upgrading of dcs , want create virtual ones instead of physical ones.

if yes better proceed that:

1. upgrade ad ds 2008 r2: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=6170
2. perform clean install of future dcs
3. promote new servers dc / dns / gc servers
4. make sure ad replication made correctly , demote old ones

if not answer question, please provide more details.
